Systems powered by public lighting

The context of the solution

Installing a security camera system in areas such as cities or large industrial facilities often involves technical obstacles. One of them is the power supply of the individual system elements. The necessary connection to the 230-volt mains is not always available at the desired camera location. Last but not least, care must be taken to ensure that the entire system and its individual elements are secure, not only against deliberate attack but also against the weather.

Description of the solution

The proposed solution combines energy self-sufficiency with uncompromising security. The camera points use LiFePO4 batteries recharged at night from the public lighting system, while all the technology is safely hidden in underground shafts. The operation of the individual systems is supervised by an IPLOG PLC with visualization of the measured data (Grafana) and its storage in a database (MySQL). IPLOGs also ensure network security through IEEE 802.1X authentication.

Advantages of the solution

  • Hidden system elements - also suitable for historical centres
  • Support for central monitoring of the power system
  • Authentication of connected users/devices
