Our xDW series optical transducers offer a reliable solution for industrial and security systems that require long-term stability, regardless of operating conditions.
WDM – transmission over a single fibre
Thanks to wavelength division multiplexing (WDM/CWDM) technology, bidirectional data transmission takes place over a single optical fibre.
- There is no need to lay and terminate two fibres – just one fibre and one connector at each end of the route are sufficient.
- Lower costs for optical cabling and installation work.
- Fewer joints and connectors along the route mean a lower risk of failure and greater reliability of the entire link.
Universal MM/SM design
xDW converters can be used interchangeably with both multimode (MM) and single-mode (SM) optical fibres.
- A single converter type covers both short and long optical routes – from hundreds of metres up to tens of kilometres for SM fibre.
- There is no need to consider which type of fibre is laid along the route and select a different model accordingly.
- Simplified stock management, design and servicing – an installation company only needs one universal type of converter for the majority of jobs.
Transparent physical layer
xDW converters operate at the physical layer and do not interpret or modify the transmitted data in any way.
- This makes it possible to transmit data in various formats and protocols transparently, without the need for complex configuration.
- There is no need to deal with transmission speed, the number of data or stop bits, or the parity type – the converter functions as a transparent optical ‘extension cable’.
- Simplified installation and commissioning – simply plug the device in; no configuration is required on the converter side.
5-year warranty
xDW converters are developed and manufactured directly within the EU, which enables METEL to maintain control over the entire production process, from development through to final quality control.
- We provide a standard five-year warranty on our products.
- Production quality is underpinned by ISO 9001 certification and process security by ISO 27001 certification.
- A long warranty period means lower total life-cycle costs for the equipment and the assurance of long-term reliable operation.
Industrial operating temperature range
xDW converters are designed for use even in demanding operating conditions.
- The operating temperature range of –40 °C to +75 °C ensures reliable operation both in outdoor switchboards and in process areas without air conditioning.
- The equipment can cope with temperature fluctuations throughout the year and with installation near heat sources.
- Suitable for installation in industrial settings, on rooftops, in plant rooms and other locations outside the standard office environment.
